Assessing the Potential for Teaching Undergraduates Information Literacy

Description: This presentation describes how a research team designed, developed, and evaluated a web-based board game to teach undergraduate students where to start their library research, how to build on a good start, how to evaluate what they find, and how to use a library's many online research and discovery tools. Based on the evaluation of the game that involved over 6 dozen students in a University of Michigan undergraduate class, our research team formulated 8 premises for the design of future information literacy games. Additionally, recommendations will be given for the enhancement of this web-based board game, for the design of comparable information literacy games, and for the design of games in educational settings generally.
